Introduction

The exhibition theme is Metamorphosis, depicting the feelings and emotions of being reborn like a butterfly. Many of my works are based on fairy tales and myths, but in my paintings the protagonists are beautifully transformed without being bound by conventional fates of gender, race or status. It is a fairy tale of metamorphosis where the viewer can project themselves into my paintings and break free from oppression. I hope that everyone can feel like to be a butterfly that magically transforms itself in its own story.

My feelings fly around in my mind, changing from one moment to the next. In this exhibition I have tried to capture the fragile nature of each work as if it were a beautiful specimen. The collection, which begins with this introduction, represents the metamorphosis of the small, cowering chrysalis-like protagonist into a butterfly.

“Humanoid”
2021, 33.4 x 21.2cm, colored pencils on panel

In schools where humanoids are made to be decent, there is often a problem with the heart of products. As everyone recites the word "I will be good" together, humanoids who question the correctness of being appropriate eventually go mad. In the depths of their iron body, the substandard one searches for their true heart, which is "no good".

Sakisaki Kaiju is a monster that eats children. Adults call children who suppress their emotions "the good", who are not actually. In anger at the adults' unreasonable treatment of children, Sakisaki Kaiju tears apart and eats the good, and keeps their precious feelings in its belly instead. To adults, it is a cruel monster, but to children who are struggling to be suitable, it is a superhero that saves them from their grief.

“The Adventure of Han

2020, 41 x 27.3cm, mixed media on panel

“Look at Me”

2020, 35 x 27cm, pencils on paper

As I make-up, dye my hair and wear sparkly earrings, I wish I could meet Medusa, who would transform me into a beautiful sculpture, to leave me a proof of my life here and now for all time to come.

“Fragile”

My friend Ana Paula is a charming dancer, a healthy and dignified girl. She never stopped smiling at me, no matter what happened. When she injured her legs and could no longer dance, she hid her heart, which was actually fragile. Although she was hurt, she still smiled at me and even looked beautiful and radiant.

“Mirror Mirror Who Am I?”

2020, 41 x 27.3cm, colored pencils on panel

Sometimes we find our own specialness through the eyes of those around us. But when what others think of you becomes who you are, your identity is lost and you lose freedom like a butterfly entangled in a spider's web. The real you is not on the outside, beautifully dressed, but on the inside, and when you find it, the web is unravelled and you are finally free.

“Snow White”

2021, 38 x 45.5cm, colored pencils on panel

Originally, Snow White is a passive being, forced to eat a poisoned apple and waiting for the prince to help her. The story has been passed down through generations as a fairy tale without questioning the unfairness of her fate as a woman. In my story She is not bound by predetermined colour of white, but is a very colourful and active protagonist who makes a boring world, divided into black and white, quite striking.

“Campanella”

2021, 45.5 x 53cm, colored pencils on panel

I feel helpless when I learn that someone has chosen suicide while I am going about my life. I wouldn't know their grief or pain but only death from announcements at station or news on television. I couldn't do anything, but I just hoped to paint chrysanthemum flowers to offer to those who have made a courageous decision. I believe that they flew to the tracks and are now riding without any pain on the beautiful train, which runs at night, carrying all sorts of creatures who have overcome death , across the shining Milky Way. The flowers may not reach Nirvana, but they continue to bloom in this painting.

The strong, beautiful and magical girls use their power to break the chains that bind our hearts. hard for me to save someone's heart actually, but instead of a magic wand I hold a colored pencil and keep drawing.

“Forget-me-not”

2019, 60 x 45cm, mixed media on canvas

The memories of my grandfather are heart-warming. He knew things, he was stubborn and mean, but I loved him because he was sweet to his grandchild. As he got older and suffered from dementia, I tried to get him to remember the zoo or the sports day we went to together, but his answers just got vaguer and vaguer. I just sat next to him afraid of hearing them, and he finally asked me who I was. He looked the same as he had always been, but I was no longer alive in his mind. I decided to keep this memory with me in my painting forever.
