Since its establishment in Tokyo in 2007, MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY has introduced works by artists who are particular about the finish of their work whilst using traditional techniques and materials, as well as graffiti and outsider art, which directly convey their thirst and passion, both in Japan and abroad. We believe that the origin of Japanese creativity lies in spirituality. Although outstanding artists existed here before the modern era, when the concept of art did not exist, their works were born from commitment. Japanese Buddhist statue making was sublimated into a rich expression through exploration, and the Western art that was subsequently transmitted to Japan was transformed into a unique world in a quiet process of change. By dealing with a wide range of modern and contemporary Japanese artists, as well as overseas artists with something in common, we hope to spread new forms of expression.
