MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY is pleased to announce Yoshimasa Tsuchiya’s 6th solo exhibition, “Festival”.
Yoshimasa Tsuchiya (b.1977) specialized in sculpture at Tokyo Art University and completed a doctor's degree in conservation and restoration of sculpture in 2007.
Tsuchiya gives life to wood with traditional technique for Buddha statue restoration. Making the eyeballs of crystal or glass, he depicts unfocused eyes which look different depending on angles. He has been well known for the animal works which have mystic or seem to have real life with smooth skin and unusual colors.
He has organized and taken part in solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad in recent years. The works received favorable reviews at exhibitions and art fairs in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and some countries in Europe.
In this exhibition, Tsuchiya will be releasing 7 works in the motif of a dinosaur, which has something to do with his childhood, a bear, a giraffe or a boy. A deer in openwork, which was exhibited at Tokyo Art University in 2018, will also be included for the show.
The title “Festival” does not specifically mean the one held somewhere by human beings.
