Green and Light

Yukino Iwatsuki

A solo exhibition by Yukino Iwatsuki, an artist who vividly expresses the ideals in everyday life through observation, will be held. 14 new oil paintings will be on display, inviting us to rediscover the small joy that we forget in the hustle and bustle.

MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY is pleased to present Yukino Iwatsuki’s solo exhibition “Green and Light”. Iwatsuki graduated from Visual Communication Design Course at Kanazawa College of Art in 1998, and has been engaged primarily in oil painting in Aichi, Japan. Alongside solo exhibitions in Japan, her works have been shown internationally, including in New York City and Venice, Italy in 2019. Captivated by daily life, Iwatsuki finds colors, forms and landscapes before her as subjects that evoke a sense of trust, and she vividly expresses the ideals there through observation. The softly painted subjects transform fleeting moments into narratives, drawing viewers into her world. Within her works, we encounter the rediscovery of small joy that we forget in the hustle and bustle. Her distinctive originality also stands out, leaving a pleasant aftertaste and making us want to revisit them time and again. This perspective stems from Iwatsuki’s own life closely aligned with her art, as she cultivates plants.

In this exhibition, Iwatsuki presents a profoundly harmonious world by the laws of all creation. Alongside the series such as “Room” and “House”, she has pioneered new motifs on green and light, showcasing infinite expansion of her works. Moreover, each work gains depth by focusing on specific subjects, such as diverse expressions of light – the gentle dappled sunlight, the outside light through windows, the interplay of light and shadow, and the effective use of reflected light. We hope you witness the new phase Iwatsuki has reached at the solo exhibition, held for the first time in more than three years.

I always want to be surrounded by greenery.

It feels like some kind of instinctive desire.

I want to go outside and bathe in the light when morning comes.

If I do not, I somehow cannot get into the swing of things.

Perhaps, like plants seeking light, I too unconsciously seek it.

Come to think of it, it might be a natural desire after all as people are part of nature.
