Megumi Ogita Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Germany's world-renowned painter and illustrator Michael Sowa.
Michael Sowa was born in Berlin in 1945 and began his full-scale career as a painter in 1992 with the success of his group exhibition "Two Century" at the German Museum of Caricature Bush.

In 1995, he received the Orf Grublanson Award, which is given to a painter who accurately carved the present age. In 1998, he was in charge of the stage art of "The Magic Flute" at the Opera House in Frankfurt, and in 2001, Jean-Pierre Jeunet. By producing the pictures and lamps used in the director's movie "Amelie", the name was solidified.
The humorous world view and detailed style of painting, as if many dimensions coexist in one picture, are enthusiastically popular all over the world, and through the illustrations of picture books, there are many deep-rooted in Japan. Have a fan.

Michael Sowa is a writer who continues to rework paintings that seem to have been completed and even original paintings that have been published in the past.
It is known that there are many cases where the same work does not already exist even if it is the original picture as it was at the time of publication, such as an illustration.
Therefore, the original drawings are rarely sold in commercial galleries, and it is a very valuable opportunity for this exhibition to be sold for the first time in Japan.
