MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY B1 2-16-12 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo
MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY is pleased to present Mika Kawano’s solo exhibition, “Garden of nocturnal party”.
Mika Kawano(b.1983 in Oita) had studied painting and finished the trainee at Beppu university.
She got many prizes at exhibitions of artist association and biennial exhibitions. And she releases new works energetically at her solo exhibitions or group exhibitions now.
Mika uses flesh color for human skin or the background of her painting. We can find common ground with Willem de Kooning who used flesh color for an important element to express human body. But in her case, she uses the color for the background so we can feel that the painting itself is alive like human.
Also she collages a fake eyelash, a pearl or a needle on the canvas sometimes and stimulates to our nerve strongly by painting a mucous membrane or the skin of bugs etc.
Mika will show the series of “Garden of nocturnal party”, and the other large-scale works which she has made in this ten years, add new works as well.
Her first book “Iyoiyohakii” was published in October 2016. We will sell special edition books with an original her work in this exhibition.
We hope you enjoy Mika Kawano’s solo exhibition, “Garden of nocturnal party” at MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY.
