We at Megumi Ogita Gallery are proud to announce Kengo Nakamura and the fashion brand, soe's collaborative exhibition, "soe by Kengo Nakamura” Exhibition from 2019.10.4 - 10.12.

The brand soe was launched during the fall/winter season in 2001 by Soichiro Ito. With a focus on mens-wear and ladies-wear, the brand's design and aesthetic draws from the nature, culture and style of the city of Tokyo.

Noting “Emoticon” series, which draws from emoticons used in email messaging, and use of the floor plans of studio apartments, the familiar imagery of manga character silhouettes and speech bubbles, Kengo Nakamura has continually sustained a production of unique paintings that incorporates motifs, which are emblematic of modern society. Furthermore, in maintaining the techniques and methods of Japanese painting, his works present the notion of Japanese "art" as one born within modernity. Additionally, as if directly addressing his audience, within various series of his work, the artist has maintained a sense of realness in what it is to live- consciously and subconsciously- during the modern, present age.
In addition to his paintings, the artist has collaborated with figures of other genres and, while also planning and managing for several exhibitions and symposiums. He has expanded his field of activity from Japan to abroad as one of the leading artists in contemporary art.

The exhibition works with another venue, at M.I.U. in Nakameguro (from 9.21 - 9.28). Besides the sales launch, which began on 9.21, the co-production of soe and Kengo Nakamura, “Emoticon” - a collage of series, archives and collaborations, have been exhibited as well. There are also limited edition of souvenir items on sale.
